I once got a **Galaxy Fold 4** a few years ago, and whilst it was initially impressive by virtue of being *a phone that fucking unfolds*, it actually broke on me quite quickly which was pretty upsetting. The hinge was ass and immediately made it so that the phone wouldn’t unfold any more. I got my warranty on it, but rather than trying again, I just sighed and went with a regular phone. But that was sad! I still loved the idea of a folding phone. So after two years with my standard phone and the “opportunity” to upgrade, I decided to wait and see if I should get the **Fold 7** after it was announced. And then it was announced! And it seems…[pretty terrible](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCgNRcV8QRc)! No more S-Pen, new drivers are bad for emulation, a giant punch-hole on the unfolded screen, and a bunch of AI bullshit. SO I just went and got a **Fold 6** on a discount instead, lmfao. And I’m glad I did! This thing is everything I was hoping the **Fold 4** would be for me. The hinge is basically non-existent now, so I’ve been able to use it for a couple of weeks without it falling apart, LMFAO. The front screen, while still pretty narrow, feel a lot better than the 4 I had. I manly use it for quick texts, music, and phone calls. I like the that OneUI lets you have two different home screens so you can have delineation between the inner and outer screens for that reason. The inner screen is where all the fun is, and I still find myself getting a serotonin boost whenever I unfolded it. It’s cool every single time weeks later! It makes my phone actually feel enjoyable to use. Watching videos on it feels great, even if the ratio isn’t a perfect 16:9. I’m not a big stickler for black bars. Sketching random stuff with the S-Pen when I’m bored is fun, and I like taking “hand-written” notes on it for work or reminders — it feels like the act of writing sticks a little more than on a keyboard. This thing is also *fantastic* for reading. I’ve already finished two books and caught up to two manga on the **Fold 7**, with more to come. It makes my phone actually feel like a useful device, and not a thing that I look at to make me sad sometimes even though all my friends are in there. Even my RSS feed feels nicer to read on it than before. Plus I don’t have to carry an eReader around anymore, and the less gadgets I can carry at once the better — I’m a dork, so I have too many as is. This is the part where I’m supposed to say “this is still a luxury, as all phones are, so you don’t need this!” But that’s not true is it? Phones are interesting because we’re all told to spend less time on them while simultaneously being forced to have our entire lives take place within them. It’s a dichotomy that we literally can’t win. So if that’s going to be the case, I’d like my phone to be fun to use again if nothing else. I don’t care about how many gigafarts and terashits are in my phone, I want it to just not make me so depressed! I’m clowning right now, but the **Fold 6** legit has helped change my relationship with my phone to make it more entertaining and nice. Doodling and reading more on it instead of just scrolling is encouraged because of the large screen. Not a formal review, but that is to say: I like my **Fold 6** a lot!
