## 2025-10-04 I’m never gonna finish this game and that makes me sad! I have thought about it pretty hard but also don’t feel like writing about it too much. But I figured I’d through what I’ve concluded up on the site, which I was able to synthesize quite succinctly on my forum. > [!quote] my thoughts as written on Auldnoir > i just found the wait that we had to wait did not make up for the lack of imaginative design we ended up getting. it feels like the devs saw all those funny videos on kotaku of people doing weird shit in BotW and went “we should make the whole game like that” but the average person just didn’t play like that. if i wanted to play legos i’d play legos. it wasn’t what i go to those games for. what they accomplished was a technological marvel, but the sandbox clashed against the game’s design ethos and made exploration a chore. Every single thing required me to play with building blocks and fusing shit together and it became so irksome. > > also, and this isn’t really nintendo’s fault, but it didn’t help that twitter fell apart around the time of the game’s release, killing the social elements that i think nintendo was betting on. i barely came into contact with a TotK “community,” and despite it being way more primed for crazy shit, other than like some robots on launch it just kind of died. there was no feed for creations to generate hype and make me go “oh i should try that.”
