I am a serial tool-swapper. It's obvious in my various [[Tech Stack - 12012024|Tech Stack]][^1] posts. It used to really bother me - like it was another personal failing of my [[ADHD]]. But now I'm honestly fine with it.
It's actually perfectly cool to swap tools every once in a while, imo, especially with a brain as weird and wild as mine. It almost feels like the changing of the seasons for me. Swapping tools every few months honestly keeps me engaged. I jumped from [[Linear]] to Todoist over this week, and it almost felt like a virtual spring cleaning. I took stock of what projects and work fell by the wayside, and reschedule based on the direction my life is now heading these next few months.
It's like putting on another jacket! It doesn't take up much of my time either. As long as I'm swapping for aesthetic purposes, or to a set of tools that I need for this particular season of my life, then it's fine.
But that last sentence is the big caveat. I don't think you should swap tools *all* the time, or do it in service of the belief that you have to keep looking until you find your perfect solution. That is an exercise in futility that I do not recommend. But otherwise, indulge a little and try out that shiny new toy. It won't make you some sort of productivity god, but you shouldn't try to be that anyways. As long as you do your best,[^2] do whatever you want.
[^1]: Fun fact - this is out of date and I need to update it again!
[^2]: and yes, I know better than anyone your best changes day to day or month to month, trust me :)
