## 2025-11-26 Egyptian[^1] comedies will often have this issue where they feel more like an excuse to do a bunch of silly skits that are barely related to each other. This makes them okay at best, but never truly memorable, or even worth writing about, to be honest. **Siko Siko** stands out — and apart — because it doesn’t fall into the same loop. The movie is about two cousins who share an inheritance from a dickhead uncle. However, that inheritance has been handed to them entirely in illicit drugs. The only way they can actually get the money and change their lives around is by selling those drugs. It’s a simple plot, but an effective one. The two cousins hate each other but have to work together in an **El Dorado** sort of way. But the movie is an absolute blast, and definitely one of the best Arabic ones I’ve watched this year. The situational comedy is smooth instead of enforced. Specifically the comedy comes from *within* the plot, and not because of whacky, random events — I promise if you’ve watched a lot of Egyptian comedies you’ll know what I’m talking about. There’s no filler and no cliche bits, either. It feels Bassem Samra gets type-cast at this point, but he does a good job here, and Taha Desouky and Essam Omar have great chemistry. Just a nice, fun time. No idea if this movie exists with subs in your language of choice, but if you wanted a smooth introduction to Egyptian cinema and comedy, it’s worth tracking down for a watch. [^1]: hold! I am part Egyptian and have lived in Cairo, this isn’t some random callout, they have a huge cinema industry there
