[[2026 Movies]]

Kevin Williamson helped create **Scream**, it only makes sense that he killed it.
I like every **Scream** movie, even 4 and the two previous reboots. But **Scream 7** broke the streak. For those who don’t know, this movie was destined to fall apart when Paramount fired its protagonist Melissa Barrera because she called out Israel for its genocide.[^1] Her costar Jenny Ortega mysteriously quit the role because of “scheduling conflicts.”[^2] Christopher Landon, of [[Happy Death Day 2U]] and [[Heart Eyes]] fame, also dropped the film as director.
So what do you do when all your talent leaves your film? You get the screenwriter to direct — a known signal for incoming quality, of course — and cash in on nostalgia. You finally pay Neve Campbell what she deserves, and then triple-down on nostalgia bait.
This movie is such a fucking mess. Once a series known for its commentary on horror, it’s become a parody of itself, to the point that if you called it Scary Movie 7 or whatever, I would have believed you. The plot is inexplicable, the characters one note and boring. **Scream** works for me because it’s funny, but this movie is drearier than that horrific **Ring** remake from a decade ago. It has nothing interesting to say, and provides no value. The nostalgia bait is uninspired and low-quality. Campbell does her best, acting her ass off in a movie that doesn’t deserve it, but in the words of my boy Kendrick, it’s not enough.
I saw this movie for free and I still want my money back. Only watch this if you want to take notes on how to avoid making a dogshit horror film.
