Chalk it up to the current state of the world, but I have enough sadness going on in my life. Perhaps I’m giving the game away with **Project Hail Mary** thanks to that opener, but you’ll only need about 30 seconds to recognize that overall, it’s the definition of a “feel good” film. Much like the last movie based on an Andy Weir novel, there isn’t even a villain: just a bunch of competent people trying to work together and solve a problem. I went into this movie knowing nothing about it — not even having seen a trailer. I had no idea that Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, of **Spider-Verse** fame, were the ones working on it until 5 minutes before we walked in. That does explain the humor, though. This is a very funny movie, in some unexpected ways. Ryan Gosling acts his ass off, too. I teared up a few times, which I can’t remember ever doing in a Gosling movie. Had a great time, I’ll likely watch it again. Try to catch it in theaters before it’s gone though — this is a movie that is very well served by a large screen.
