[[Favorites of 2025]] I’m pretty bad at writing about [[Movies]]. To be honest, it could be argued that I have a pretty uncritical lens towards most film, unless I like, deeply hate whatever I’m watching. But at the very least, I know a good movie when I see it, and I watched a lot of good movies in 2025! Below you’ll find a few thoughts on the ones that stuck out most to me. --- ## [[Predator - Badlands]] “**Predator** but make it **Star Wars**” shouldn’t work, but boy does it. We're 3/3 on good movies from the *Predaissance*, and I couldn’t be happier. I will be there for anything this team puts out. ## [[Chainsaw Man the Movie - Reze]] This is pretty much exactly what I remember high school being like, more or less. ## [[Bad Guys 2]] Better than the first, with three cut-away gags that I absolutely howled at. The perfect recreation of Cairo is the bonus I keep going back to of course. Wonderful little film. ## [[Weapons]] I loved [[Barbarian]], but I probably love **Weapons** even more. The build up in this movie is expertly paced, and the pay off is worth the runtime. I wouldn’t call this a *scary* movie by any means, as much as it is unsettling and hilarious. ## [[Predator - Killer of Killers]] They stole my idea but that’s fine, at least they did it properly. ## [[Kpop Demon Hunters]] There’s nothing for me to say here that hasn’t already been said. You either love it or wish you never hear the word “golden” again. [[KPop Demon Hunters Soundtrack|I own the soundtrack on vinyl]] though, so you can tell which side I’m on. ## [[Sinners]] Probably the best movie I’ve ever seen in my life. ## [[Princess Mononoke]] Probably the best animated movie I’ve ever seen in my life. ## [[The Monkey]] As I say in my notes on this film, the best horror is comedic, and **The Monkey** is hellbent on making you laugh. Weirdly impactful movie that targeted my anxieties directly. Good as hell. ## [[Companion]] At this point it feels like we’re just making android media that’s a meditation on what it means to be a human so we can keep dunking on **Detroit Become Human**. I'm perfectly okay with this. **Companion** is likely somewhere at the top of the pile for that particular genre. ## [[Sonic the Hedgehog 3]] I continue to be shocked at how good these movies have been. The third is probably the best yet, with the silly OC humans getting the shortest amount of screentime yet. That’s worth celebrating in my opinion. ## [[Baby Assassins - Nice Days]] The best **Baby Assassins** movie yet, with actual stakes and a more even blend of slice-of-life comedy and action. The fits are fitting and the colors are popping. Someone remind me to watch the TV show that just came out too, please.
