**Masters of the Universe** is this year’s **Dungeons & Dragons** movie. By this I mean it’s a movie that bombed financially, which ends up being depressing because the final product is quite entertaining.
I can vouch for this because I don’t give a shit about He-Man. I never watched the cartoons, including **She-Ra**, with the extent of my connection to the series being the [What’s Going On?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8Nc8RCLy1s) video. But I still had a great time with **Masters of the Universe**. It's not going to blow anybody’s minds but it does what it sets out to do, which is be an entertaining adventure with dumb loud explosions and pretty good fight choreography.
I do regret to inform you that Skeletor is easily the best part of the film — with the regret being that Skeletor is played by resident freak Jared Leto. But it’s true! He steals every scene he’s in, and plays the balance of menacing villain and silly goober quite well. At least you don’t have to see his face.
The ending fight scene is probably the stand out. It feels anime as hell, which is cool to see in a live-action movie. But yeah, it’s pretty good, check it out when it hits streaming. You’ll be sure to see it on “Hidden Gem” lists within the next few years.
