Don't let the title fool you, I just thought it'd be fun to go over [[Games|game]] genres I've tried and failed to connect with after 24 years in this godforsaken hobby. ## 4X / RTS Games ### Why? The former is because I'm inpatient and also crave tactile feedback in my games, which is why I trend towards spectacle and games that follow parties of characters that do specific *things* together. The latter is a little bit more interesting - it's mostly because I didn't really start gaming on a PC until [[One Year of PC Gaming|very recently]], so it just passed me by. ## Puzzle Games ### Why? I'm an idiot that's only built for **Picross**. *Fuck* I love me some **Picross**. Send me your fave **Picross** games, particularly if you can play them on a handheld that isn't the [[Nintendo DS|DS]] - I've played all of the DS and 3DS **Picross** games lol. ## Sports Games ### Why? I grew up on single-player games for so long that I just never engaged with online games which is why I think sports games passed me by. I can pop off on arcade-y ones like **NBA Jam**. ## Farming Sims ### Why? I can only play ones like **Rune Factory** or **Harvestella** - games that have some sort of mechanic outside of just the farming. Also, I straight up avoid these kinds of games because I know they'll melt my time. ## Adventure ### Why? Too obtuse, like Puzzle games. Also they were all kind of before my time. ## Visual Novels ### Why? Another PC staple that I missed the boat on. Also if I'm going to read a lot I'm probs gonna just read a book. I don't say that in some sort of superior way, I just have a lot of books that I want to read too lmao. ## CRPGs ### Why? Another PC genre - sensing a pattern? But even now I just find them way too slow-paced. I tried to get into **Pillars of Eternity** and it felt like I aged a year after one combat segment. Same with **Baldur's Gate 3**[^1]. ## Simulation Games ### Why? Stuff like **Sim City** falls into the same category as 4X, in that it doesn't have enough *feedback* for me. Then stuff like **Euro Truck Simulator** feels like busy work. I know that's the point, but still. ## Horror Games ### Why? I'm cooking up a longer post about this, but the tl;dr is that interactive scariness is way harder for me to deal with than a scary movie. Exceptions include the ones that give me a bazooka (**Resident Evil 4**) and the ones that have fun twists and not too many jumpscares (**Doki Doki Literature Club**). ## Gatcha Games ### Why? They are not of god. --- That's all I can think of. What are your least favorite genres? Tell me pwease. [^1]: Sorry El :c
