[[Games]] ## Notes ![[Dream Tactics (2024)-20240422153337567.png]] ## 04/22/2024 It's a tactics game crossed with a deck builder. It's very good! Silky smooth, good UI/UX, the music is pretty nice if a bit repetitive. Deck building has been fun! There's a nice pace of cards that you pick up with time. You could probably do just fine with the base deck you get for each character, but there's room for min/maxing too. Equipment is ironically more interesting, at least so far. You can really get sicko mode in there. Right now I have two party members that can proc debuffs that the mage can do extra damage off of. I haven't found much of a reason to swap cards between characters though. Maybe when I get more party members that have good card synergy. As of now the three members I have are so distinct there'd be no reason. ## 05062024 ### 9.5 Hours I return to this game after inhaling [[Another Crab's Treasure]]. Most of what I said still applies - here's what I wrote on [auldnoir](https://discourse.auldnoir.org): > been playing this game called dream tactics, it’s pretty dang good. it’s a GBA-styled tactics game where you use a deck of cards for each character and fight pillows (not pillow-fight) in a dreamy world. that said it is _not_ a roguelite, but rather a hand-crafted experience from beginning to end. > > there’s a lot a depth. obviously unlocking cards and creating a deck for each character is one part, but the real enjoyment for me has been equipment. you get red and blue points to spend on two different kinds of equipment to build a loadout, and every piece of equipment is very interesting and unique as far as speccing characters out. > > check it out, i’m 10 hours in and haven’t stopped enjoying it which is a good sign i think This all is true, but after another session this evening I'd add that I'm losing a bit of steam. This is because the latest character I've unlocked, a thief pillow, isn't very fun for me to use, which is sad, because I loved the fire-spreading witch I unlocked in the first zone. She's clutched the hell out of some fights for me. The Thief Pillow though...I just can't seem to find a synergistic deck that works well and is entertaining. So as a result the zone I'm in has been kind of boring. I'm nearing the end though I think, which is nice because it means I'll get to a new character and a new deck soon. Beyond that I'm glad I'm playing on Easy, because these fights are getting **LONG** and i'd be pissed if I lost a fight and had to redo them if I were playing on a harder difficulty. Even Easy can feel pretty challenging - if you're not careful, your units can get swarmed and subsequently deleted. I haven't lost a fight yet, but I got very close in the last major zone-ending boss-battle, and I'm a little worried about the one that comes next. Otherwise though, I'm still having a blast, and I continue to be impressed by the sheer amount of equipment in *Dream Tactics* that isn't just some variation of a stat stick. This dev team has done a great job of making interesting and unique gear, and I wish other games took note! ## 05072024 ### 10ish Hours Hit the 10 hour mark and sadly had to drop the game. The way you can get punished and have a unit die in one turn is very irritating when you only have four of them and doesn't encourage interesting play, instead making you turtle turn after turn, which sucks! Got a good time out of it though, and maybe I'll return during a rainy day.
